Nick’s Authentic Italian Spaghetti Sauce

Spaghetti sauce made from scratch is super satisfying and way more flavorful than the jarred stuff. It’s usually tomato-based and seasoned with garlic, onions, and herbs like basil and oregano. Whether you’re making a meaty version or keeping it vegetarian, the key is using quality ingredients and letting it simmer to develop rich flavor.

Simple Homemade Spaghetti Sauce Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 3–4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes (or 6–8 fresh ripe tomatoes, peeled and chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste (optional, for richness)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • A pinch of sugar (to balance acidity)
  • Fresh basil or parsley for garnish (optional)

Instructions:

  1. Heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
  2. Add chopped onion and sauté until soft (about 5 minutes).
  3. Stir in garlic and cook for another minute.
  4. Pour in crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Stir well.
  5. Add oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and a pinch of sugar.
  6. Simmer uncovered on low heat for 20–30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve over cooked spaghetti and top with fresh herbs or parmesan if you like.

This sauce also freezes well, so you can make a big batch and save some for later. Homemade sauce = next-level pasta night!
